  • Expression of Interest are invited for Trainers for a Technical Workshop on Advanced Analytical Methods for Human Capital Development Modelling for Sub-Saharan Africa Researchers. Aim of the Course Human capital development encompasses investment in knowledge, skills, and health of a people. This investment if accumulated throughout their lifetime, increases productivity and quality of life. Human capital investment is characterized through nutrition, health care, quality education, jobs and skills that helps improve labour productivity, thus improving livelihoods and well-being. In literature, human capital development analytical studies employ various type of data and estimation methodologies. The studies apply cross-sectional, timeseries, longitudinal and panel data, and the methods applied in the analysis are aligned to the data used. The aim of this course is to enhance competencies of the BMGF Human Capital Development thematic researchers in application of advanced analytical methods for human capital development research they are undertaking. This course is tailor-made for BMGF HCD thematic researchers in SSA. The technical training workshop will cover the following topics in advanced analytical methods for human capital development modelling: i) Conceptualization of a human capital development study: basic tenets of theoretical exposition, research questions, exploring literature and publication in a quality journal. ii) Analytical methods I: Applying survey and cross-sectional data, modelling, and estimation frameworks. iii) Analytical methods II: Applying timeseries data, modelling, and estimation frameworks. iv) Analytical methods III: Applying longitudinal and panel data, modelling, and estimation frameworks. v) Case studies: Reference works in human capital development: World Bank Human Capital Index and Journal articles which have the analytical methods. The Call for Expression of Interest We would like to invite qualified persons to respond to the expression of interest to offer this training. The terms of reference for the instructor include the following tasks: • Preparation of the workshop agenda and technical prospectus to be used in the five-day training workshop. • Identification of relevant materials and documentations for use during the workshop. • Lead the discussions and provide the participants with extensive exposure to a selected number of useful concepts and issues relevant to the course. • Provide practical examples on analytical methods for human capital development. • Prepare a report on the proceedings of the workshop. • Perform any other activities as mutually agreed upon between the trainer(s) and AERC. • Women trainers are encouraged to apply. Selection of the trainer(s) will be based on the following criteria: • At least have a master-s degree and professional progression thereafter. • Experience in teaching and/or implementing advanced analytical methods course. • Ability to use interactive platform to deliver the course and evidence of experiential teaching will be an added advantage. • Experience in offering short course to participants with diverse background. • Published in refereed/peer reviewed outlets (Journal Articles, Books and Book Chapters) on areas relevant to the course. • A brief outline of what will be covered in the course. • The expression of interest should have a motivation statement of not more than five hundred (500) words on why you should be selected. • Any other useful information relating to offering the course.
