Job Title: Regional Programme Officer (RPO) Reporting to: Head of Development Cooperation for Kenya Department: Regional Environmental Hub Number of positions: 1 Gross Salary Range: Competitive Type of Contract: 4-Years Job Location: Nairobi, Kenya Employers Background The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi represents Sweden in Kenya, Somalia, Seychelles and Comoros. The Embassy also represents Sweden in UNEP and UN-HABITAT The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi has over 70 employees. The overall tasks include political reporting, consular matters, migration, development cooperation including bilateral support to Kenya and Somalia. The development cooperation also hosts a regional team consisting of (i) the environmental hub; (ii) Power Africa and (iii) the regional innovative financing hub. The environmental hub was established in 2021 and focuses on environment, climate change and biodiversity. The Embassy is now seeking a qualified individual to fill the full-time position to the regional environmental hub, which is also a part of Swedens development agency Sidas Team Environment for Africa. He/she will be part of a dynamic and agile team consisting of colleagues based in Nairobi as well as team members based at Sida Headquarters in Stockholm. The RPO will be a member of the staff of the Embassy in Nairobi and will work under the management of the Head of Development Cooperation for Kenya. The chosen candidate will occupy a 4-years contract position, with the possibility for extension. The Environmental hub was established with the goal to elevate the impact of Swedens work within environment and climate, with a particular focus on climate, environment, biodiversity and ecosystem services in Africa. The mission of the regional hub in Nairobi and Sidas Team Environment is to increase the overall impact of development assistance in terms of environment and climate and achieve transformative change. In order to achieve this, a focus for the hub in Nairobi is to find synergies between bilateral, regional and global Swedish development strategies and priorities. The target group(s) are the Swedish missions (Embassies) in the region implementing development cooperation, with which close cooperation is foreseen. An extended target group are key Swedish stakeholders in the region, including trade promotors and private sector actors contributing to the Swedish Governments priorities. Key Roles & Responsibility · Be part of the Regional Environmental Hub and Sidas Team Environment Africa, contributing and delivering results in line with the teams goals; · Closely coordinate and communicate with Swedish Embassies in the region and with Sidas Africa Department; · Contribute to increased synergies between bilateral, regional and global strategies implemented by Sweden; · Contribute to dialogue based on Swedish priorities; Contribute to the overall work of the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi including a good work environment; · The applicant needs to be prepared and willing to assume unforeseen tasks, sometimes within short notice Qualifications · University Degree in environmental sciences, anthropology, development studies with a focus on sustainability, international affairs/political science with a focus on environment/climate change/sustainability or similar relevant thematic areas; · Minimum five years of relevant professional experience related to environment/climate change/development/sustainability; · Very good knowledge in one or more of the fields of environment, climate change, circular/green economy, sustainability, or similar relevant areas; · Diploma or certificate in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Power Point), or proven proficiency in the programmes; · Excellent command of spoken and written English; · Good command of spoken and written French (i.e., working skills); · Able to travel in the region and to represent Sweden, and Swedish values, at events and reception that are outside working hours. Merits and Skills Competencies · Analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills, ability to communicate in a clear and concise way, both verbally and written; · Proven ability to identify synergies between local, regional and global initiatives; · Proven skills of working in a dynamic, agile, fast moving work environment; · Experience from working with mobilizing private capital for environment and climate purposes and/or different financing mechanisms related to development cooperation; · Knowledgeable in Human Rights and particular rights connected to environment, climate change, circular/green economy and sustainability; How to Apply: Interested individuals are invited to submit a 1-page Cover Letter, a CV, and a minimum of 3 professional references to career page not later than Thursday 06th April, 2023. The Embassy of Sweden does not sponsor visas/work permits. Work permits will not be arranged by the Embassy.
